A large portion of all WTC3 I/O boards sent to KK Wind Solutions with suspected defects turn out not to be defective when tested.
This is obviously a waste of time and money for the turbine owners, so KK Wind Solutions has seen a need for developing a tool that enables field technicians to carry out troubleshooting on the WTC3 I/O board onsite.
The new troubleshooting solution was tested live at a turbine site in Orlando, USA, end of September 2016, and proved a success. A troubleshooting review took only 70 minutes carried out by a field technician.
Hanse Falkenstrøm Krüth, Team Lead, Projects & Engineering, was involved in the test and is looking forward to introducing the new toolbox solution to customers:
“When our customers start using this new troubleshooting solution, we expect to significantly reduce the number of healthy boards sent for sanity check and repair,” he says.
In addition to a toolbox, which is a 12 kilo piece of equipment that comes in a handy box, the solution includes a troubleshooting guide especially useful for service technicians who might not have electrical systems as their field of expertise. The third part of this three-element solution is a technical support hotline which provides access to specialist advice regarding WTC3 I/O boards.
“The entire concept of having a technical support function, FAQ and checklists along with the toolbox will make a valuable difference right away for the customers who start using it. Obviously, we cannot eliminate the occurrence of defective prints but we can enable our customers to identify the non-defective ones and thereby avoid sending them to KK for sanity check.”
No more sending healthy I/O boards for sanity check
